Contact Exchange Builder Free

Create a digital business card from one form: a contact file (.vcf), a QR code, an email card and printable business cards. The builder runs in your browser. The form is not submitted and nothing is uploaded or saved.

  • Contact file
  • QR code
  • Email card
  • Business cards

Made one before?

This is how you appear in people's contacts. Add a name, a company, or both.

Photo or logo (optional)

What happens to your image: your browser shrinks it to a small 256 x 256 pixel picture on your device. It is never uploaded. It is not in the QR code, because a photo is too big to fit in one.

Nothing is saved on our website. Keep your .vcf file and use Open Contact File to edit it later.

Add phone numbers, email, website and a business address.

  3. Add profiles and a note

Add links to your social profiles and a short note.

  4. Design your card

Choose a layout, color, font and the details to show, including the QR code.

  5. Save and share

Download your files, copy your email card or print business cards.

What the Tool Creates

Each format is made from the same details, so they always match.

  • Contact file (.vcf)

A standard vCard file with your details and, if you choose, your photo or logo. Most phones and contacts apps can open it.

  • Contact QR code

A code that phone cameras can scan to save your contact. Download it as a PNG image or an SVG file.

  • Email card

Your contact details with links for your phone, email and website, ready to paste into an email.

  • Printable business cards

Ten copies of your design per page on US Letter or A4 paper, with or without a QR code.

  • Contact file (.csv)

The same details in a spreadsheet format, for apps that import contacts from .csv files.

  • Send from your phone

On phones that support it, send your contact file by text, email or another app.

How to Send Your Contact by Email

Include your contact details in an email in a format people can save.

  1. Copy your card

Click Copy for Email in step 5.

  2. Paste it

Open a new email and paste with Ctrl+V, or Cmd+V on a Mac.

  3. Attach your file

Attach your .vcf contact file to the email.

  4. Send

The recipient can use the links, scan the QR code or open the file.

How People Save Your Contact

The exact steps depend on the phone or app, but these are the usual ways.

  • Scan the QR code. Point a phone camera or QR code app at the code, then choose to save the contact.
  • Open the .vcf file on a phone. Tap the file in an email or message, then choose to save it as a new contact.
  • Import on a computer. Use the Import option in a contacts app and choose the .vcf file.
  • Import a .csv file. For apps that import contacts from .csv files instead.

What Happens to Your Information

The builder runs in your web browser.

  • Not submitted. The form is not sent to a server, and nothing is stored.
  • Cleaned as you type. Phone fields accept phone characters only, and links must start with a valid web address.
  • Images resized on your device. Uploaded images become a 256 x 256 pixel JPEG image.
  • You choose where your image goes. The contact file, the email card, the business card, or none of them.
  • Not in the QR code. The QR code holds text details only.
  • Cleared when you leave. Refreshing or closing the page clears the form, so keep your .vcf file.

Tips for a QR Code That Scans Easily

Simple checks help your printed code work for everyone.

  • Keep it simple. Fewer details make a less dense code. You can leave social profiles and the note out of the QR code.
  • Use dark on light. A dark code on a white background is easiest to scan.
  • Leave space around it. Keep the white border around the code.
  • Do not print it too small. A code about 2 cm (0.8 in) wide or larger works well on business cards.
  • Test before printing. Scan the code with your own phone first.
  • Update when details change. Make a new code if your phone number or email changes.

Contact Exchange Builder FAQ

What is a digital business card?

A digital business card is your contact details in a format that can be saved straight into a phone or contacts app. This tool creates it four ways from one form: a contact file (.vcf), a QR code, an email card and printable business cards.

What is a .vcf file?

A .vcf file, also called a vCard, is a standard file format for contact details. Most phones and contacts apps can open it and offer to save it as a new contact.

Is the Contact Exchange Builder free?

Yes. It is free to use and does not require an account or sign-up.

Is my information sent to a server?

No. The form is not submitted anywhere. Your details and image are processed in your web browser, and your files are created on your own device. Nothing is stored, so refreshing or closing the page clears your details.

What happens to the image I upload?

Your browser resizes it to a 256 x 256 pixel JPEG image on your device. Choose Photo to fill the circle or Logo to show the whole image on a white background. You choose whether it is added to your contact file, your email card and your business card. It is not included in the QR code, because an image is too large to fit in one.

How does the contact QR code work?

The QR code contains your contact details as text. When someone scans it with a phone camera or QR code app, the phone shows the contact and offers to save it. The code does not link to a website.

Does the QR code expire?

No. Your details are stored in the code itself, so it does not depend on a website and scans are not tracked. If your details change, create a new QR code.

Can I leave the QR code off my business card?

Yes. In step 4, Design Your Card, uncheck QR code under What to show on the card.

What can I change on the business card?

You can choose one of four layouts, a brand color, a font style, the photo shape and the text size. You can show or hide each detail, the icons, the accent line under your name and the QR code, and change the label under the QR code.

How do I send my contact by email?

Click Copy for Email, paste it into a new message, then attach your .vcf file. You can choose link colors, underlined links and text labels for the email card. Each email app displays formatting slightly differently.

How do people save my contact?

On a phone, they can scan your QR code or open your .vcf file and choose to save it. On a computer, they can use the Import option in their contacts app and choose your .vcf file.

Why is there a .csv download?

Some email and contacts apps, including some versions of Outlook, import contacts from .csv files instead of .vcf files. The .csv file contains the same details in a spreadsheet format.

Can I print business cards?

Yes. Print Cards prints 10 copies of your design on one page: 3.5 x 2 inch cards on US Letter paper or 85 x 54 mm cards on A4 paper. Set the print scale to 100% and print a test page on plain paper first.

Can I edit my contact later?

Yes. Keep your .vcf file, click Open Contact File and choose it. Your details and image are filled in again. Your card design is not saved in the file, so choose it again.

Can I use my Brand Kit file?

Yes. If you made brand guidelines with the free Brand Kit Builder, click Open Brand Kit File and choose your brand file (.json). Your name, title, company, phone, website, tagline, logo and brand color are filled in.

Can I make cards for a team?

Yes, one person at a time. Download each person's files, then change the details or open the next person's contact file. Your card design stays the same, so the cards match.
